The Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress will cost you £999 in the Single size with a Small Double or Double costing £1299 and a King costing £1499. If you’re lucky enough to have a Super King Size base then this mattress will cost you £1699.
It is sold by Dreams. You will find mattresses with quite similar designs at other retailers, but I believe this one is exclusively sold at Dreams. Attempting to compare mattresses between different retailers can be something of a challenge, as they often do ‘exclusive’ versions.
Firmness rating of the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
Dreams and Silentnight give the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress a medium-firm rating. When we tested it, we gave it a rating of 6/10 with 1/10 being very soft and 10/10 being very firm. Getting the right firmness for you can take bit of trial and error, but the general rules are that heavier people need firmer mattresses than lighter people – and that side sleepers need softer mattresses than front or back sleepers.
As much discussed on The Sleep Guy, there’s no industry-wide agreements on what ‘medium-firm’ actually means but it is generally considered to be a firmness rating that is suitable for a large proportion of the population. Indeed, many of the modern and trendy bed-in-a-box brands started out with just one design and deliberately made it medium-firm so they would capture a large share of the market.
Testing out the firmness rating of the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
We do a few things when we test a mattress to figure out if it’s the right firmness for you. I weigh about 13 stone and I’m 6 ft tall so this advice will be most valuable if you’re a similar build to me. As always, we would recommend testing out a mattress for yourself, which is one of the big advantages of buying from Dreams, rather than an online only retailer.
We started off by lying on our back to perform the spine test. This involves putting your hand underneath your spine and feeling how much space or pressure there is. The firmness level is just about right for you if it’s not too hard or too easy to put your hand underneath.
If it’s very easy to put your hand underneath, the mattress is too firm for you and is lifting your spine up off the mattress without much support. A mattress that is too soft for you will see you sink too far into the mattress and so it’ll be very hard to get your hand underneath.
The aim is to find the sweet spot between the two.
For me personally, this mattress was about right when I was sleeping on my side but was slightly too soft when I was on my front or my back. That’s not a criticism of this specific mattress, but just gives you an indication of how it might feel for you.
Testing the strength at the edges of the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
Next up, we carried out a couple of tests to see how strong the mattress was at the very edges. First, we lay on our side at the very edge of the mattress. Poor quality mattresses tend to sink and leave you falling onto the floor. That’s not ideal and is a particular problem if you are sharing a mattress and get pushed to the edge. In this case, we felt the edge strength was surprisingly good, considering this is not a particularly firm mattress.
We then carried out what I called the Custard Slice Test, where we sit on a mattress and see how much it compresses. Again, it performed well in this regard. Generally, very firm mattresses do better at this, but this was an above-average performance.

Handles on the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
This is a single-sided mattress, which means that you won’t need to turn it over regularly. There is some debate online about the pros and cons of a double-sided pocket sprung mattress versus a single sided pocket sprung mattress (the same debate isn’t as thrilling when it comes to foam mattresses and hybrid mattresses, as they are nearly all single sided).
The most useful advice though is to follow the advice for your specific mattress. You won’t need to flip this mattress, but it is recommended that you rotate it round to help prolong its life.
Good quality handles are an essential part of this, but they also give us a bit of an indication of build quality. Heavier and more robust mattresses tend to come with better built and constructed handles. In this case, we felt the handles were very well made and had a particularly robust design. I’ve seen a few mattresses from the likes of Hypnos that are slightly thicker in the material used for the handles, but I really am being quite picky by this point
Motion transfer on the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
There are several methods for testing out motion transfer on a mattress. Some people use glasses of water or balance things on the mattress to see if they fall over.
Personally, I would recommend going shopping with your spouse and both lying on the mattress together. You can then take it in turns to get out of the bed and give feedback on and what you could feel.
This is about as real world as you’re going to get and will give you a great indication of how likely you are to be woken up when one person sneaks out for a midnight toilet trip.
I felt the motion transfer on this mattress was was about average. There was some sideways movement but not really anymore than you would expect from a pocket sprung mattress.
Generally speaking, foam mattresses offer better motion transfer than pocket spring mattresses, which have a bit more of a bounce to them. Old fashioned open coil mattresses tend to be the worst for motion transfer. I’m not a fan of these type of mattresses – go for a pocket sprung mattress such as this one instead, if you can afford it.
Construction and design of the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
As mentioned earlier, this is a pocket sprung mattress, although Silentnight like to call it a Mirapocket mattress. They’ve been using this term for several years, but this is essentially a similar design to other pocket sprung mattresses.
It uses something called zoned support, which is another common design on modern mattresses. The idea is that you get different amounts of pressure and different firmness levels at different parts of the mattress to fit around your body shape.
Of course, this does make certain assumptions about your size and build but the general idea is to give you the support you need in the right places.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this mattress is that it uses some latex. This is a high quality and expensive natural material, which is often seen as a superior alternative to foam. As you’re probably aware, it comes from rubber trees and is excellent at providing comfort and support without making you too warm.
This may well explain why the price is quite high. Silentnight are a decent mid-market brand, but I would generally expect their mattresses to be a little cheaper than this one. The addition of the latex is probably what has pushed the price up.
It comes with a 5-year warranty, which I would say is relatively low. I would expect for this price point to be getting a warranty closer to 7 or 10 years. I wouldn’t say this is a big deal though.

Final thoughts on the Silentnight Sleep Response Relieve 2000 Mattress
This is certainly not the cheapest Silentnight mattress on the market. For the money you are spending, you could potentially get yourself one of the cheaper Hypnos mattresses or even perhaps an entry level Vispring mattress.
However, we liked the design and the fact that latex was included – and the fact that you can try it out in the person. It competes in a very busy marketplace for pocket sprung mattresses, but if the comfort is right for you then this is a solid choice.
