When we tested the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress it was being sold at £325 for a single model by JYSK. We couldn’t find prices for the double or king size model but will update if these become available.

Firmness rating of the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress

Let’s begin with the first test that we carry out, which is to try and figure out a firmness rating for the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress. The version that we tested was advertised as a medium but as any regular readers (ha!) will know, that can mean very different things depending on who you’re buying the mattress from.

In this instance, I was surprised at how soft it was and would give it an overall firmness rating of four out of 10 with one being soft and 10 being firm.

I always like to begin by lying on my back and putting my hand underneath to see how much space there is between my spine and the mattress. If it’s very hard to get your hand underneath then it means the mattress is probably too soft for your weight and build. That was certainly the case for me, as I found it quite difficult to get my hand underneath.

In a side sleeping position, this mattress felt quite comfortable to me. I didn’t feel there was too much pressure on my shoulders and hips and I sunk in just a good amount.

If pushed, I might say that it was slightly too soft for a side sleeping position of someone of my weight and build but not too much. I weigh 13 stone and am 6 foot tall.

On my front and on my back, it was much too soft for me and I didn’t think it would provide the level of support required for my weight and build. I’d say there would be a fairly high chance of me waking up in an awkward position and feeling sore.

That isn’t a criticism of this specific mattress but the key with mattress shopping is to find one that fits your own weight and build. There isn’t a one size fits all solution to mattress buying, despite what some brands would have you believe!

Edge firmness and strength of the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress

Next up, we did two tests to figure out how strong the mattress is right to the edges. This is a really important test.

First up, we like to sit on the edge of the bed as if we are putting our shoes on in the morning. The mattress compressed quite a significant amount. You always expect some compression on a soft mattress but it was more than I would expect. I then lay on my side on the edge of the mattress, which is a good test particularly if you have young children that are likely to jump into your bed and force you towards the edges. I also have a theory that a mattress with a good consistent firmness level all over is less likely to be one that develops dips and bumps over the years (this is just a personal theory, I’ve not read any studies in this).

In this instance, I would say the edge support was a little below average and I found myself sinking quite a lot on the edge of the mattress when laying on my side.

Motion transfer on the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress

The next test that I always encourage people to try out when they are in a mattress shop is a motion transfer test. This gives you a good idea of how likely you are to be woken up when your spouse decides to go to the toilet in the middle of the night or has to get up early to go to work.

I would say this mattress had an above average level of wobble to it. The usual way we test this out is to have two people laying side by side. One person gets out the bed and the other person rates how much movement they can feel. We couldn’t do this properly because we were testing out a single version of the mattress but I did feel it had a slightly above average amount of wobble to it.

Specification and design of the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress

This is an extraordinarily deep mattress, which is about 37cm deep. That’s because it uses multiple layers and quite a complicated design with more than one layer of springs combined with more than one layer of foam. There isn’t necessarily a problem with having a deep mattress but you may find that your standard fitted sheets won’t fit on it that well and you’ll need to buy extra deep ones.

Final thoughts on the Dreamzone Kova GS95 sprung mattress

Overall then, this mattress was a little too soft for me. Of course, it might be right for you if you are lighter than me. I felt that the motion transfer and edge support was a little behind some that we have tested. However, for the price it was being offered for at the time of testing, I would say that it still represents good value.
