As something of a mattress nerd, I’m always keen to try out lesser known brands.
I hadn’t heard of Deepsleep before and had the opportunity to try out their Oasis mattress to find out if it is Super(sonic) or whether it would leave me saying Whatever. Apologies for the poor puns but sometimes you’ve just go to Roll With It.

Firmness rating of the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
I would give the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress a score of about 5 for firmness, with 10 being firm and 1 being soft. Its label describes it as ‘medium/soft’.
When we lay on our front, my initial reaction was that whilst it had a nice feel, it was a bit too soft for my weight and build. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress too much and so was not quite getting the support I need. I had a similar reaction when I lay on my back.
To test this out in a slightly more scientific way, I then put my hand underneath my back. The general rule is that if a mattress is too soft for you, it is very hard to get your hand underneath. If it is too hard for you then it’s very easy to get your hand underneath. You really want to aim for a middle ground, which you can get a feel for after trying out lots of different mattresses.
In this instance, it was too difficult to get my hand underneath, which confirmed that this mattress is a bit too soft for me as a 13 stone male who is about 6 ft tall. If you are smaller or lighter than me then it may be just right for you.
Sleeping position is also important and when I turned onto my side I found that it was actually about right for me.
I spend most of my time sleeping on my front so this mattress wouldn’t be quite right for me but that’s not to dismiss it entirely. It may be just right for you.

Motion transfer on the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
This is a particularly bouncy mattress, compared to most models that we have tried recently. I was slightly concerned that it would rate poorly on motion transfer, which affects how much you notice when the person next to you moves around in bed. However, I would say that it performed well and didn’t feel too wobbly from my point of view.
Edge firmness on the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
As regular readers will know (Hi, Mum!“), the next test we carry out is how the bed feels at the very edges. Ideally, you want a consistency so that you get the same comfort and level of support, whether you are pushed right to the edge of the bed or lying in the middle. I have an unproven theory that this reduces the chance of a bed developing dips as you don’t get used to sleeping in one particular place.
In this regard, I did feel a little as though the mattress had something of a curve or camber to it. When I was at the very edges, I did struggle to maintain my balance and comfort and I think I would have struggled to sleep in this position. It’s not a major issue and you may well not notice it but you tend to get over-sensitive to these sort of things when you try out as many mattresses as I do!

Handle strength and stitching on the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
Another test that you might like to do when you go to a mattress shop is to have a good look at the handles. Stronger handles can be an indication that the mattress is very robustly made. It’s also a bit of a weak point on a mattress as it gets pulled a lot over the years and can be where a mattress rips.
In this instance, I would say that the stitching was not quite as robust and the fabric not quite as thick are some of the posher brands of mattress that we have tested. However, we are comparing a mattress that costs hundreds of pounds with ones that cost thousands – so some difference is not unreasonable.

Design of the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
One thing that caught my attention with this mattress is that it described as being a dual season reversible mattress. In other words, one side is designed to be slept on in summer and one is designed to be slept on in winter.
This to me seems like an excellent innovation as it encourages you to turn over the mattress and also means that the design can be tailored slightly for when you want to feel slightly warmer or cooler in bed.
Of course, it does rather rely on the user remembering to turn it over at the right point, such as when the clocks change. If you are as organised and use diaries as much as my wife then this will be fine and I would say it is a positive point in favour of the mattress. However, if you live in total chaos and don’t own a diary then I would suggest that you probably won’t keep up this regime for long.
It is also notable that this mattress says clearly that it is not bendable so it can’t be used on an adjustable bed frame.

Price of the Deepsleep Oasis Pocket Sprung Mattress
When we tested out this mattress it was being sold for £749 in the double size or £849 in the king size. The single model is £649 whilst the superking is £1149.
