I’m The Sleep Guy, a former BBC journalist called Rob.
I became obsessed with good sleep after dealing with a particularly tricky new-born baby! I have written every single word on the site in the last eight years and don’t allow any sponsored posts. This site began life at The Best Mattresses but we gave it a rebrand in 2024 as it started to cover a lot more, such as beds, pillows and duvets – as well as general advice on how to get good sleep.
I take a journalistic approach to sleep and mattress research, digging into academic research from around the world rather than relying on the sales pitches of the big mattress brands. Many of the mattresses and sleep products are self-tested, with my editorial stance allowing me to give an honest opinion. I aim to give advice that is jargon free and easy to understand, with the aim of making it useful, even if you don’t share my relentless (and baffling) passion for sleep products, beds and mattresses.
Once products have been assessed, I provide links to shops where those sleep items can be bought. Some of these shops pass on commission, but it doesn’t change the price you pay and it gives me editorial control over the content on The Sleep Guy.
